The Community Empowerment Committee agreed to publish the Spring 2024 edition of the Council newsletter at their meeting on May 9th 2024.
Pupil Parliament
We recently hosted two meetings of the Abertillery Learning Community’s Pupil Parliament in the Council Chambers. Our staff supported the pupil secretaries in creating agendas and minutes, while our Chair coached the pupil chair through leading the meetings. The students enjoyed the experience, and we look forward to hosting more in the future.
Recent events
- Our St. David’s Day Community Carol Concert at St. Michael’s Church raised £186 towards the building of toilets inside the Church.
- We provided financial support to Ffrindiau Tyleri for Springfest in March, and our staff also joined their Springfest litter pick with the Abertillery Learning Community.
Car Scheme
Residents may have received a Car Scheme leaflet in the post recently as part of our support for the Blaenau Gwent Car Scheme, run by the Bridges charity. We are helping them recruit more volunteer drivers to continue their important work. For more information, please email us.
Gwent Police
We’ve recently begun communicating closely with Gwent Police to understand their efforts in improving our area. PS Dan Wise and CSO Luke Davies joined our March meeting to provide updates. In April, some members met informally with CSO Luke Davies for further discussions. We’ll keep improving our collaboration with Gwent Police, including hosting more meetings to address concerns and stay updated on their work.
