The Community Empowerment Committee agreed to publish the Spring 2025 Newsletter (Cylchlythyr Gwanwyn 2025) at their meeting on March 18th 2025. This is the sixth edition of the Council newsletter.

Grants awarded
We awarded £35,660 of grant funding to over 40 different organisations in the 2024-25 financial year. For a full breakdown of grants awarded this year, please visit our website.
Wales in Bloom
We are entering this year’s Wales in Bloom contest! We will be partnering with lots of local organisations and volunteers for this project. If you are interested in taking part, please email our office.
Winter events
- Our Community Christmas Carol Concert raised £919 for the Chair’s nominated charity this year.
- We gave 85 selection boxes to the young performers at AYDMS.
- We donated 177 selection boxes to St. Illtyd’s Primary School for their Christmas Fete.
- We provided Christmas lights throughout Abertillery and Six Bells. We also provided grants to Llanhilleth TRA, Aberbeeg TRA, Pentref Tyleri and the community centres in Swffryd, Brynithel and Bournville for Christmas lights in these areas.
- We sponsored the Hospice of the Valleys Christmas concert, which raised £2,187 for the charity.
- We provided funding for Ffrindiau Tyleri’s Winterfest, which unfortunately could not go ahead due to severe weather.
- We gave a grant of £250 to Ebenezer Baptist Church for their Messy Christmas event, which was a huge success.
CPR training
Some of our Councillors attended a free CPR/AED training session by a local company, SLIC Training. We maintain 13 defibrillators in the area, and this valuable session was a great way to get more insight into using them.
2025-2026 Budget
In January, Council agreed its budget and precept requirements for the 2025-26 financial year. The budget will be £464,023 and the precept request will be £434,023. To view the detailed budget, please visit our website.
Recent actions
- In December, Council met with Sgt. Amy Hughes, the new Gwent Police Sergeant for the Abertillery area.
- The PlaCE Committee recently made recommendations to Blaenau Gwent CBC to help with parking issues in the area.
- We got accepted to receive a free defibrillator from the British Heart Foundation, which we will be installing at Aberbeeg Community Centre.
- Green Fingers was awarded the tender for grounds maintenance at Abertillery War Memorial.
- Her Web Solutions was awarded the tender to build and host a new Council website.
- Our St. David’s Day Concert raised £250 for the Chair’s nominated charity.
- Work is due to begin on the railings at the Abertillery War Memorial in March.
