Summer 2025 Newsletter

Summer Newsletter - Cylchlythyr Haf 2025

On July 18th, the Community Empowerment Committee agreed to publish the seventh edition of the Council newsletter (Cylchlythyr Haf 2025), outlining some of our work over the last few months.

Six Bells Park Centenary Celebrations, 9 to 10 May 2025

We hosted two events to celebrate 100 years of Six Bells Park.

On 9 May we had pupils from ALC Six Bells Campus singing, plus special guests, a ceremonial key-turning, games and celebration cake.

On 10 May, we had live music, inflatables, food vans, stallholders and more. We’d like to thank everyone who came along and made the day so amazing!

Party in the Park, 14 June 2025

Our annual Party in the Park was a great success again this year, raising £410 for our Chair’s nominated charity!

We had circus acts, live music, viking re-enactments, a climbing wall, local stallholders and more. Thank you to Abertillery BG RFC for hosting again, and to AYDMS for managing the stage acts.

Viaduct Run – Ras Draphont, 29 June 2025

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 5k, family run and awards at Swffryd Community Centre, and to our amazing volunteers. We raised £440 for Sofrydd Primary School!

Annual Grants

So far this year, our annual grants have supported Aber Rocks, Abertillery Rock and Blues Festival, Springfest and Aberfest. We’re also providing Off The Streets with £5,000 towards their Llanhilleth Summer Fete on 2 August.

Abertillery Banking Hub

In May, we were delighted to attend the opening ceremony of the new permanent Banking Hub in Abertillery! We began working towards this goal in February 2023.

Wales in Bloom

Our Wales in Bloom entries were judged in July, with a tour of various sites like St. Michael’s Church, local schools, Six Bells Park and more. We’d like to thank Councillor Ralph Henderson, Abertillery Aspirations and all of the volunteers who helped with this project.

Grants awarded

We awarded £5,757.93 of grant funding to 6 organisations from April to June this year, including funding for the Six Bells 65th Anniversary Memorial Event.

War Memorial Railings

We recently had the railings and gate at Abertillery War Memorial restored and repainted. Thank you to Metalweld Fabrications for completing this work.

Upcoming: Summer Cinema

Our FREE Summer Cinema is back, running from 22 July to 28 August. Join us in The Met every Tuesday and Thursday at 10am and 2pm for free films. See our social media for details.
